Justice is the great French electronic duo that put out the critically acclaimed album simply entitled “†”. It was an incredible electronic album that contained some great dance hooks and well as plenty of experimentation. They took a huge turn with their most recent record “Audio, Video, Disco”, by incorporating a full Rock band style recording, instead of their normal penchant for electronics. The result was a Rock record with a dance edge. It’s a good sound that they developed, and reminds me of the way Daft Punk are approaching their newest record. Sometimes these electronic musicians need to mix things up and show us what they are capable of with the bare essential ingredients such as a guitar, drums and bass.
“New Lands” starts with a jumpy keyboard line and establishes a nice groove right away. It has some great hooks in the chorus. This songs shows the talents of Justice, regardless of what instruments they are playing.
In case you need an hour of high energy music.

In the same vein of Daft Punk, Belgium’s Soulwax have had huge success with the “real instruments meets electronic” sound. With this album, they remixed one of their standard rock records and made one of the best electronic albums of all time. This record packs a huge punch, and is pretty much a must for any fan of the genre. They use analog sounds and rely on their knowledge and love of the groove, and the result is amazing. “Krack” starts out stripped down, but then when they crank in the grinding synths and the rhythm starts pounding, you can almost smell the sweat on the dance floors.
This 2011 album from Mark Ronson and the Business is a pop gem. He has lots of guest vocalists on the record which outshine some tunes. The Boy George guest spot on the tune ”Somebody To Love Me” gets all the attention… but a tune like this one goes under the radar. I think it’s one of the better songs on the album, and has Mark Ronson singing the chorus, with Duran Duran singer Simon Le Bon backing him. It’s a clever lyrical song as well… he states during the song that he doesn’t want any of the luxuries of being a star, he just wants to be in your record collection. This song is also the only pop song to drop a Trading Places reference, I imagine! Enjoy.
